Two Dryland Exercises that Every Swimmer Should Master

Getting Fitter & Faster with Dryland

Lee Sommers is the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Nations Capital Swim Club and Rockville Municipal Swim Club! He trained Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Katie Ledecky for the four years leading up to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Watch him demonstrate and explain the importance of two dryland exercises that every swimmer should master.

1. First is the perfect plank.

Planks are one of the most important exercises for swimmers to strengthen core as well as injury prevention.

2. Next is the single leg bridge for strength and stability in your hips.

This is a great drill for all swimmers to try. Watch Lee demonstrate it and apply it to your own training.

Dryland is an important part of every swimmer’s training. Adding a dryland element to your next Fitter and Faster clinic can elevate it to the next level.
