Coach James Tierney has played an important role in American Swimming over the past three decades; coaching at both the Division I. (Northwestern) and now the Division II. (McKendree; which he built from scratch) level, as well as USA Swimming clubs, including national team appointments for the US teams at several World University Games competitions and other international meets. Coach Tierney has served proudly for the American Swimming Coaches Association and continuously works to inspire the next generation of young coaches. In this episode of Coaches Corner, Coach Tierney and host Mike Murray discuss the critical role the sport has played in his life, and the many lessons learned along the way; particularly the challenges of starting your career as a young coach and what mistakes coaches make often in the early part of their work in the profession.
