Junior College Swimming: A Great First Step
Coach Joe Plane has worked at almost every level of competitive swimming, from the club ranks all the way to big-time division 1 swimming programs like The University of Michigan and The University of the Pacific. He’s worked alongside legends like Bob Bowman, Jon Urbanchek, Jim Richardson and Greg Meehan; and helped many athletes achieve their long-term goals, both athletically and academically.
Now, at his post at Iowa Central Community College, Coach Plane is creating a culture of success and excellence at the Junior College level. In the past 4 seasons the Iowa Central Swimming program has finished in the top 8 at the NJCAA (National Collegiate Junior College Athletic Association) championships.
Plane’s teams have claimed 2 National Championships in relay competition and some of his athletes are competing internationally. Coach Plane and host Mike Murray discuss the benefits of the junior college experience and why it might be the perfect place to start your collegiate swimming career.
