Introduction

Two-Day Swim Camp! No more than 30 participants in each session! Sign up for one or both sessions for your swimmer's age group!

The participants ages 11 & Under will work on breaststroke and pullouts in their first session. Then in the second session they will work on flip turns, open turns and finishes.

Swimmers ages 12 & Older will work on starts and underwater dolphin kicking on Saturday. Then on Sunday, they will work on butterfly and open turns.

Your clinician for this camp will be National Champion and Elite Clinician Tom Luchsinger. Your swimmer has so much they can learn from Tom! Scroll down for more details on the curriculum.

Tom will lead 4 sessions, 2 for each age group of competitive swimmers:

Curriculum

SESSION 1 (11 & Under): BREASTSTROKE AND BREASTSTROKE PULLOUTS

In a breaststroke race, swimmers should spend about as much time in their pullout underwater as they do swimming on the surface. This session will cover both of these skills. Your swimmer will deepen their understanding of the techniques required to become a better racer with National Champion Tom Luchsinger.

  • BREASTSTROKE: Your swimmer will begin with a strong understanding of the timing of the kick and pull and begin to utilize the same strategies world class breaststrokers use to minimize their footprint in the water. Participants will learn the skills of swimming in a horizontal plane, keeping the hips high throughout the entire cycle and utilizing a small but powerful kick while generating power forward with their recovery.
  • BREASTSTROKE PULLOUT: The secret weapon in any breaststroke event! You can quickly travel very far down the pool with very little effort when executing a pull out correctly. A pullout is where every "non-breastroker" should focus on improving so that they can be as competitive as possible. Tom will work with swimmers to improve their technique and timing in their pullout for faster breaststroke racing!

SESSION 2 (11 & Under): FLIP TURNS, OPEN TURNS, AND FINISHES

Most age group swimmers add in extra movements on their open turns, flip turns, and finishes that slow them down and prevent them from carrying their momentum through the turn as well as into the finish! Even at Olympic Trials we see many very fast swimmers who miss making finals and even the Olympic team because of the quality turns and finish! The turn is an opportunity for a swimmer to actually GAIN MOMENTUM, when in fact most swimmers actually slow down. At the finish, many swimmers try to accelerate, but end up wasting energy. At this session, National Champion Tom Luchsinger, will be in the water teaching your swimmer how to improve their turns and finish so that they can drop time!

  • FLIP TURNS: Your swimmer will learn how to carry their momentum through the turn to get in and out of every wall faster. Swimmers will practice accelerating into the wall with long strokes and then using their core and arms to get through the turn. They'll practice planting their feet on the wall for a powerful pushoff in the perfect streamline. Tom will give the swimmers drills and exercises to help them master this athletic skill now as well as in the future!
  • OPEN TURNS: Think about the open turn differently! You should not be making an open to turn around and swim the next lap. If you're doing this - you're actually stopping and then trying to regain speed again. An expertly executed open turn involves spinning backwards. This enables you to carry momentum into the pushoff. We're going to teach you how to cut a lot of time on this turn... helping you in all of your breaststroke and butterfly races!
  • FINISHES: Races can be won and lost by hundredths of a second. Many races come down to the very last stroke. Your swimmer will learn how to drive their legs, elongate their arms, and keep their head down so that your swimmer doesn't waste any time or strokes as they approach the wall.

SESSION 3 (12 & Over): STARTS AND UNDERWATER DOLPHIN KICKING

The start is your swimmer's opportunity to cover as much ground as possible in a very short period of time, with great efficiency and momentum heading into your underwater dolphin kicking. There are countless intricacies to performing a start and your swimmer will only get better with practice. Sign up your swimmer to work with Tom in this session to improve in these key areas of racing fast.

  • STARTS: How you set up on the block including proper hand and foot placement can allow your swimmer to launch forward with a lot of explosive power. Brett will work with each swimmer to find their best position on the block as well as how to drive their body forward into a tight streamline and enter through a small hole.
  • UNDERWATER DOLPHIN KICKING: The not-so-secret weapon of elite level swimmers is their underwater dolphin kick. Tom specializes in this challenging skill and he with work with participants to maintain a tight streamline while executing a powerful core driven whip that will allow them to accelerate into the breakout.

SESSION 4 (12 & Over): BUTTERFLY AND OPEN TURNS

Butterfly can be a very difficult stroke to master due to the importance and of timing and rhythm! Learn from 200 butterfly National Champion Tom Luchsinger technique for a more efficient butterfly stroke and faster open turns! Working on these two skills together will help participants becoome better racers in every butterfly race!

  • BUTTERFLY: Swimming a relaxed and fast butterfly is all in the technique and timing! Tom will go over the proper body position, kick, arm pull, and breath as well as the timing of how it all fits together! Your swimmer will look and feel more smooth and fast after improving on these key areas of butterfly technique.
