Past Clinic

Introduction

Two-Day Swim Camp – Sign up for one day or SAVE by signing up for BOTH days!

Any elite butterflyer or backstroker will tell you that the time they spend underwater is just as important as the time they spend on the surface. At this camp, participants will work on elite butterfly technique and underwater dolphin kicking on their front on Saturday. Then on Sunday, the focus will be on backstroke and underwater dolphin kicking on their back!

Your clinician for this camp will be Elite clinician and Olympic gold medalist Tyler Clary! Tyler is one of Fitter and Faster's most experienced and requested clinicians. He will be joined by National Champion Giles Smith! Scroll down for more details on the curriculum!

Curriculum

Day 1: Butterfly and Underwater Dolphin Kicking (Front)

At these sessions on the first day of this swim camp, participants will work on balancing power and fluid rhythm in both butterfly technique and underwater dolphin kicking. These are two of the most dynamic and athletic movements in the sport of swimming. Olympic gold medalist Tyler Clary will be in the water working with participants to refine and perfect their skills and commit to maintaining good habits every time they push off the wall and swim butterfly!

  • Butterfly: Elite butterfliers maintain forward momentum by setting an immediate high catch with a perfectly timed kick. They are committed to a breathing pattern, perfecting their distance per stroke, and maintaining a horizontal body position - Tyler will help your swimmer become committed to these same skills to create better habits every time they swim fly!
  • Underwater Dolphin Kicking (Front): The not-so-secret weapon of elite level swimmers is their underwater dolphin kick. The fastest swimmers in the world are faster underwater than on the surface and they utilize this knowledge and skill by extending their dolphin kick off of every start and turn. When dolphin kicking on your stomach, it is easy to have a powerful downwards kick, but forget to emphasize the upwards kick. Tyler Clary will teach your swimmer how to unlock the speed and power of their underwater dolphin kick to generate more speed leading into their breakout when dolphin kicking on their stomach.

Day 2: Backstroke and Underwater Dolphin Kicking (Back)

Your swimmer understands the core components of backstroke, now begin to master the subtle skills that will help your swimmer compete at a higher level. Participants will practice using their core to create rotation as well as a stable and balanced stroke, build a powerful pull with a strategic use of stroke rate, and use their kick as a dominant propulsive force. At these sessions, gold medalist in backstroke Tyler Clary will work with participants in backstroke as well as dolphin kicking on their back so that they can race faster in every backstroke race.

  • Backstroke: Engaging your core not only allows you to swim stronger, but it also allows you to hold the proper body position. Brett will help swimmers learn the importance of rotation and how to use it to their advantage for more power in each stroke. The arm pull in backstroke should press the water all the way through using the whole arm to achieve maximum propulsion. Backstrokers are often the fastest kickers on their teams, find out why and learn to have a stronger kick!!
  • Underwater Dolphin Kicking (Back): There are some slight differences to underwater dolphin kicking on your back when compared to your stomach. Participants will work with Olympic gold medalist Tyler Clary to maintain the integrity of their streamline and the proper depth all while executing a fast and powerful dolphin kick!
