Swimmers will learn and practice the essentials of fast, smart swimming based on the efficient and powerful styles of Three-Time Olympic freestyler Kara Lynn Joyce and World Champion butterflyer Tom Luchsinger.

FREESTYLE

BUTTERFLY

  • CORE STRENGTH AND FLEXIBILTY: A key component of Luchsinger’s butterfly is the power he generates from his core.  Learn techniques that he practices to propel the body from the core and move with the most fluidity.
  • HIGH HIPS: Luchsinger excels at riding the water high and focusing his movement on going forward.  A crucial element of this technique that Luchsinger will demonstrate is keeping the high hips during all stages of the butterfly stroke.
  • STROKE COUNT:  Knowing your stroke count during training and how that can affect your speed is a critical element of butterfly.  Learn and practice this technique that Luchsinger uses daily during his training with North Baltimore Aquatic Club to establish a stroke count that combines speed and power for the most efficiency. 
  •  MAXIMIZE THE KICK: Kicking in both directions is an essential skill to fast butterfly and something that is not fully utilized by many swimmers.  Learn the techniques that Luchsinger practices to ensure he is maximizing his kick by using both his quads and hamstrings to kick in both directions and generate power.  

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING: Get inside the minds of two of the best swimmers in the world.  Joyce and Luchsinger will dissect their stroke and explain what they think about when they swim in practices and races.

WATCH THE CLINICIANS: Observe Joyce and Luchsinger swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast freestyle and butterfly.

GET UP AND RACE: Race two of the best swimmers in the world and watch their near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills they will teach you.

ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask the clinicians questions during a Q&A session.  Hear the Olympians talk and gain insight into their training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.
