EXPERIENCE

Patrick McCloskey swam for four years at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.  During his freshman year, Patrick sustained a training injury that could have ended his swimming career, but he accepted the physical and emotional challenges and went on to become an Academic All-American while majoring in History and minoring in English and Sociology. He went on to earn his Master of Arts in Teaching that has given him a unique perspective in his approach to communicating with athletes of all levels.

Patrick began his swim coaching career with his neighborhood team when he graduated high school and that’s when he discovered his passion for coaching swimmers. He coached the same neighborhood team for ten consecutive years. Club coaching began right after college graduation starting at the San Antonio Wave and then Alamo Area Aquatics Association.

Fueling Patrick’s thirst to learn, he has attended ASCA World Clinics as he continued to hone his coaching and communication skills.  He coached at Trinity University in 2017-2018 season, and he enjoyed collegiate coaching so much, he set his sights higher.  Patrick accepted a coaching position at the University of Southern California for the 2018-2019 season.  With legendary coaches Dave Salo and Jon Urbanchek, Patrick had the privilege to coach the USC Trojan Men’s and Women’s swim team and the professional swimmers of the Trojan Swim Club. While in southern California, he worked with numerous NCAA champions and Olympians from the U.S. and abroad.  Patrick also served as the co-director and coach of the Salo Swim Camp.

In the fall of 2019 Patrick moved to Austin and began coaching with the University of Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving team and Texas Longhorn Aquatics. He had the incredible opportunity to work under leadership and guidance of legendary Coach Eddie Reese and Wyatt Collins. During the 2020-2021 season, The University of Texas Men’s Swimming and Diving team won their 15th NCAA Championship. Patrick is thankful he was involved in that amazing winning culture and experienced being part of a dynasty.

Currently, Patrick is employed by the LA Current of the International Swimming League.  Patrick constantly continues to grow as a coach while working with world-class athletes and coaches.
