Curriculum

PVS Swimposium: Parents Education: September 6, 2025

Parents will participate in a full day of impactful sessions led by national experts in youth sports, college swimming, SafeSport, and coach-family communication. These sessions are designed to give you the tools to better understand your athlete, foster stronger relationships with coaches and teams, and navigate the swimming journey with confidence. Programming aligns with your swimmer’s schedule for both the 12 & Under and 13 & Over age groups.

  • The Power of Positive Sports Parenting: Presented by PCA - 9:00–10:25 AM: This engaging workshop from Positive Coaching Alliance explores how parents can play a constructive, growth-focused role in their swimmer’s experience. You'll learn how to support your athlete without adding pressure, encourage long-term development over short-term results, and create an environment where your child feels confident and motivated — in and out of the pool.
  • SafeSport for Parents – Led by Liz Hahn (USA Swimming Safe Sport Director) - 10:30–11:55 AM: In this essential session, Liz Hahn will help parents understand their role in creating and maintaining a safe and respectful sport environment. You’ll learn how to identify red flags, understand athlete protection policies, and build awareness around how your athlete’s team and coaches are supported through SafeSport initiatives.
  • Keynote Lunch – Featuring Coach Matt Barany (University of Richmond) - 12:00–1:20 PM: During this midday break, all participants will gather for a shared keynote experience with Coach Matt Barany — a dynamic speaker known for his passion, creativity, and thought-provoking perspective on sport and personal growth. His talk, Preparing for High Performance, will explore the power of curiosity, the importance of connection, and how we can all grow through our roles in the swimming community — as athletes, coaches, and parents.
  • College Swimming in 2025: What Athletes, Coaches, and Parents Need to Know– Led by Samantha Barany & Guest Coaches - 1:30–2:55 PM: Samantha Barany, Executive Director of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), brings unmatched insight into the current college swimming environment. In College Swimming in 2025: What Athletes, Coaches, and Parents Need to Know, she’ll be joined by a panel of experienced college coaches to discuss recruiting trends, eligibility expectations, and how club coaches and families can best support athletes pursuing collegiate swimming.
  • Trusting the Process: Developing a Relationship with Your Coach & Team – Led by Bridget Conger - 3:00–4:30 PM: This closing session will be led by Bridget Conger, mother of Olympian Jack Conger, who brings a wealth of personal experience from supporting her son’s journey from age group swimming through the Olympics. Bridget will guide parents through how to build open, respectful communication with coaches — and how to step into a supportive role that empowers your athlete. You'll explore how to balance involvement with independence, build trust, and contribute to a stronger team culture as a swim parent.
