Past Clinic

All swimmers recognize that open water swimming presents challenges never seen in a pool: rougher water, no lanes and a significant difference in energy cost.  This calls for not just better, but different, freestyle swimming and racing technique.  At this clinic, participants will learn from two two-time Olympians who will teach open water strategies that lead to more effective training and racing.

Sutton and Jensen will share their techniques for becoming an effective "drafter", utlizing your position in the "pack" and becoming better at "sighting" the race course.  Participants will take away key training and racing skills that will make them a faster and smarter open water swimmer.

Custom Curriculum - Reston, VA (Open Water Racing)

OPEN WATER RACING AND TRAINING TECHNIQUES:

IN THE WATER:

HEAR FROM CHLOE AND LARSEN:

  • TRAINING FOR OPEN WATER: Training for open water races in a pool can be challenging and requires a different approach than traditional training. Sutton and Jensen will share the training techniques they have used to turn pool training to their advantage and become great open water swimmers.
  • ASK QUESTIONS: Participants are invited to ask the clinicians questions during a Q&A session. Hear the Olympians talk and gain insight into their training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.
  • WHAT ARE THEY THINKING: Get inside the minds of two of the best swimmers in the world. Sutton and Jensen will dissect their stroke and explain what they think about when they swim in practices and races.
  • MENTAL TOUGHNESS: Mental preparation and training are critical to reaching peak performance. Learn to overcome doubt and increase self-confidence to become a higher performing athlete.
