FREESTYLE: Freestylers have the widest range of distances to choose to race from. Tyler Clary will help you identify the key components to increasing power and efficiency in your freestyle stroke. There are slight technique and strategy differences when swimming sprint and middle distance. Learn those differences and improve.

  • Proper Body Position: Instead of relying on your kick to keep your hips high, learn skills and drills elite swimmers rely on to keep a horizontal body position throughout a race. Your head is an important part of keeping your body in the proper position for a more efficient stroke. Keep your head down!
  • Powerful Pull: Utilize an early vertical forearm to put pressure backwards on the water immediately upon entry to help propel you forward. Focus on your forearm as being your paddle as you press it into the water with long and fast strokes.
  • Efficient Breath: Maintaining a low and quick breath directly impacts your ability to hold a great bodyline, maintain tempo and sustain speed. Listen carefully as we share the secrets of how to sneak in your breath.
  • Find the Right Tempo: Finding the right balance between the number of strokes you take and the distance you move each stroke is different, but crucial, for everyone. Learn useful strategies to help you determine what stroke count is best for you. Then learn how and when to pick up your tempo based off your racing plan.

FLIP TURNS: Numerous coaches talk to their athletes about the walls being "Free Speed"! At the turn, you get the opportunity to recreate momentum off of each wall; learn how to take advantage of that opportunity.

  • Accelerate into the Wall: The more speed you approach the wall with, the more energy you'll create to leave the wall with speed! Learn the importance of building your tempo into the wall!
  • Fast Rotation: Bring your arms, knees, and chin into your chest to get a tight tuck and a fast flip. Get your tailbone straight over and get your feet to the wall!
  • Proper Foot Plant: Plant your feet, shoulder width apart, with toes pointing more toward the surface than toward the bottom of the pool to initiate a more powerful push off.
  • Powerful Pushoff: Leaving the wall streamlined, with a well timed glide, is one of the easiest and most valuable habits you can create for yourself! Learn how to "crack the chestnut" to keep your body straight and strong.
ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Tyler questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into training training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIAN: Observe Tyler swimming at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast swimming.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch his near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills they will teach you.
