BACKSTROKE STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; 2012 Olympians Nick Thoman and Lauren Perdue will share stories on how they found time to practice and improve their starts both in and out of the water and then they'll teach you some of their favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.
- HAND PLACEMENT: Different starting blocks offer some different places to set your hands; learn the best placement for you but also become confident in your ability to use any type of block.
- BODY LINE/ENTRY: The key to a great entry is getting your hips high WHILE ALSO pushing backwards. We'll work on this skill so that you can enter in a small entry hole.
- BREAKOUT: Timing the transition of dolphin to flutter kicking, as well as when to start that first pull, is critical in maintaining speed.
FREESTYLE: Beyond covering the essentials of a great bodyline and early vertical catch, in this clinic you learn the subtleties of how to transition from a longer hip driven stroke to a shorter more powerful shoulder driven stroke allowing you to create more power.
- BODY POSITION: Instead of relying on your kick to keep your hips high, learn skills and drills elite swimmers rely on to keep a horizontal body position throughout a race.
- HEAD POSITION: Head position is critical in setting and maintaining a balanced bodyline, learn where your head should be and commit to getting it back to its place after each breath.
TRAINING READINESS: It isn't what you do the week of, or night before, a meet...it is the months of training prior to a big meet that will most influence your potential to perform to your expectations. In this performance essentials clinic, you will learn some of our athletes best kept secrets on how they prepare themselves EVERYDAY to make the most of every workout they step on the deck for.
- RECOVERY: Having proper fuel so your body can perform is one of the most important components of training. Learn strategies for setting up a great daily nutritional plan, when to eat before and after training and if fueling DURING workout important for you.
- HAVE ALL EQUIPMENT: Make sure your equipment bag is filled with everything you need to assist you in training. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are prepared for workout.
- ACT LIKE AN ATHLETE: The more you carry yourself like an elite athlete, the better chance you have of becoming one!
