STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with an explosive, streamlined, and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice. Olympians Cammile Adams and Klete Keller will share stories on how they found time to practice and improve their starts both in and out of the water and then they'll teach you some of their favorite drill and tricks on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement. OPEN TURNS: Numerous coaches talk to their athletes about the walls being "Free Speed"! At the turn, you get the opportunity to recreate momentum off of each wall; learn how to take advantage of that opportunity.- APPROACH: Know how to anticipate the turn by understanding how and when to adjust your stroke so you touch at the end of a full stroke cycle rather than too short or long.
- ROTATION: Getting from fingertips to feet touching the wall is simply half of a backwards somersault! Learn how to create that rotation using your head, core and knee drive.
- FOOT/HAND PLANT: You are probably consistent at touching with two hands simultaneously, but do you know the feet should plant shoulder width apart and at a 45 degree angle for the best push off? Our elite athletes will show you why and how to get the most out of your foot placement.
- PUSHOFF: No need to spin on the wall in an effort to leave on your stomach. Watch and learn as our world class clinicians teach you to leave on your side, and rotate onto your stomach after your feet leave the wall - it's faster... we promise!
- Goal Setting: One of the most common, and simplest, strategies individuals in any challenging situation use is learning how to set goals and then how to achieve them! There are lots of steps to successful goal setting but the key is OWNING your goal! Your clinician will help you learn how to challenge yourself while achieving every goal you set for yourself!
- Behind the Blocks: Each individual athlete has a different demeanor behind the blocks; it's the great ones that control their emotions and actions that tend to race the best. Hear strategies on how different athletes remain focused on themselves in the ready room and behind the blocks. From music to rituals, breathing techniques to stretching...get ideas on what might work for you!
