This event is designed as an exciting partnership between PVS and Fitter and Faster! Swimmers ages 12 to competitive adult.  It is designed to teach the intricacies of a faster start, a more efficient freestyle, a powerful backstroke, and the strategies for being a better long course racer! Tyler Clary is a master of these skills and he is also one of the premier instructors on the Tour! You will also lean from Tom Luchsinger! Learn from the best!

STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice. Tyler Clary and Tom Luchsinger will share stories on how they found time to practice and improve their starts both in and out of the water and then they will teach you some of their favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.

  • Hand Placement: Know exactly where to place your hands so that you can be active in your ready position and explode off the block. Your first movement should be to pull with your arms. Tyler and Tom will teach you how!
  • Foot Placement: Everyone's foot placement might be a bit different but the elite clinician will teach you how to figure out what is best for you to gain both stability on the block and explosive power when leaving the block.
  • Reaction Time: The quicker you react the quicker you'll get in the water! Learn the secrets of improving your reaction time. Practice drills for a faster reaction time off the blocks
  • Body Line/Entry: What does a walnut have to do with a great start?! Tyler Clary will share his expert tips on how you enter the water. Experiment with how steep is too steep, how to get into one small entry hole and how to stay strong from fingertips to toes. Work on eliminating water resistance for the tightest possible entry and learn to squeeze the ears tightly and elongate the body for the most optimal position.

FREESTYLE: We swim freestyle more than any other stroke in training, instead of tuning out on technique use our coaches to inspire you to make each stroke you take count. Begin by setting up a great bodyline, learning drills to establish high elbows in both your powerful catch and your relaxed recovery and commit to a six beat kick. We know that the breath can slow even some of the most accomplished freestylers down, learn to perfect not only your timing but also how to take a low and quicker breath.

  • Body Position: Instead of relying on your kick to keep your hips high, learn skills and drills elite swimmers rely on to keep a horizontal body position throughout a race. (HINT: it all comes from your core!)
  • Pull: Utilize an early vertical forearm to put pressure backwards on the water immediately upon entry to help propel you forward. Maximize the surface area of your pull and learn to have long and efficient strokes.
  • Breathing: Maintaining a low and quick breath directly impacts your ability to hold a great bodyline, maintain tempo and sustain speed. Listen carefully as we share the secrets of how to sneak in your breath so that you accelerate through the breath stroke instead of slowing down.

BACKSTROKE: Identify with an Olympic Gold Medalist backstroker, Tyler Clary, the key factors to build a balanced and propulsive backstroke. It will require a strong core, a small and steady kick, and a pull pattern where pressure is put immediately backwards on the water. Tyler has a ton of unique drills to help every swimmer improve.

  • Body Position: Learn why it is so important to ride high on the water with the hips and feet in line with the spine. Engage your core to swim like a speed boat across the surface with less resistance.
  • Pull: Accelerating your hand into the entry and getting into a clean catch position will help you set up a pull that will propel you forward. Finish strong and accelerate into your recovery for a smooth and powerful stroke.
  • Tempo: Hand speed on the entry and the exit...the pros NEVER let their hands stop in backstroke, should you? Learn how to "tempo up" for a racing backstroke that can't be beat!

LONG COURSE RACING STRATEGY: The difference between racing short course and long course is more than you think. There are different strategies involved in maximizing your potential on these very different venues. Tyler and Tom will help swimmers understand to use their strengths to their advantage to race long course faster!

  • Stroke Count: Make each stroke count to get more distance per stroke. Remember, swimming fast is a math equation where stroke length x stroke rate = SPEED!
  • Turns and Underwaters: With only doing half the amount of turns and underwaters compared to short course, you have to learn to utilize the speed that you attain as you go thorugh each turn even more effectively. Tyler and Tom will teach you the tricks to maintaining momentum.
  • Endurance: Racing strategy is all about effectively using your speed and endurance so that you run out of energy right as your fingertips touch the wall: no earlier and no later. As a 400 IM expert, Tyler knows these techniques all too well.

ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Tyler and Tom questions during a Q&A session. Hear him talk and gain insight into his training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIAN: Observe Tyler and Tom at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast freestyle and breaststroke.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch his near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills he will teach you.
