An effective way for fast swimmers to get even faster is to practice their starts, turns and finishes in every practice! Three-time Olympian Elizabeth Beisel will teach you the key components to enhance your overall performance!
FLAT START: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; Olympian Elizabeth Beisel will share stories on how she found time to practice and improve her starts both in and out of the water and then she teach you some of her favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.
FLIP TURN: Numerous coaches talk to their athletes about the walls being "Free Speed"! At the turn, you get the opportunity to recreate momentum off of each wall; learn how to take advantage of that opportunity.
- ROTATION: Getting your feet to the wall quickly is paramount for a fast turn! Practice a fast and tight rotation by learning to use your head, core and by driving your heels to the wall.
- FOOT PLANT: Plant your feet, shoulder width apart, with toes pointing more toward the surface than toward the bottom of the pool to initiate a more powerful push off.
- PUSHOFF: During the push off, it is faster to leave the wall on your back rather than spinning onto your side during the rotation. Use your core and your feet as a rudder to help you rotate onto your side and stomach into the breakout.
- UNDERWATER KICK: Take advantage of every single kick for better training and racing! Learn to use the up AND down portion of the dolphin kick for better distance per kick.
-
EXTENSION: It is critical to get full extension as you reach your fingertips to the wall. Head down, chin to shoulder and rotating fully onto your side will extend your reach by inches. Our elite clinician will teach you the proper body position to ensure you get into the wall quickly.
-
HAND PLACEMENT: Don't grab the wall at the finish! Make sure you nail the finish with your finger tips right below the surface of the water.
