FLAT STARTS:  Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; our world class clinicians will share stories on how they found time to practice and improve their starts both in and out of the water and then they'll teach you some of their favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.

  • REACTION TIME:  The quicker you react the quicker you'll get in the water! Learn the secrets of improving your reaction time.
  • BODY LINE/ENTRY:  How you enter the water is just as important as how explosive you are off the blocks - all the power you created can be for naught if you don't carry that speed forward. Experiment with how steep is too steep, how to get into one small entry hole and how to stay strong from fingertips to toes.
  • WEDGE PLATFORMS:  Even though you may not have a wedge platform to practice off of regularly, our clinicians will instruct you on how to confidently adjust the wedge and teach you where to place it for your individual strengths. Soon the wedge will be standard equipment at all championship level meets - put yourself in a position to know how to use it to your advantage!

RELAY EXCHANGES: So many swimmers aspire to be on relays - it is an honor! Relay starts can often make or break a team. In this high performance clinic we will highlight the fine points of a well timed relay exchange to ensure a LEGAL but small exchange time.

  • SWIMMING IN (FINISHER):  In most cases, it is the swimmer finishing that creates an early take off; learn how to adjust for your finish and why it is so crucial you come in long and with speed.
  • TAKING OFF (STARTER):  Learn how to create momentum while on the blocks with a strong and forward swing of the arms.
  • TAKING OFF CUES:  Learn cues on how to read how the swimmer in the water will finish so that you can execute a well timed take off.
  • USING A STEP AND ARM SWING:  Using a step forward in the take off is a distinct advantage over a flat start! We will work on the timing of moving your feet forward while you swing the arms so that you create maximum momentum.
