Fitter & Faster

SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS: This clinic session is recommended for swimmers ages 11 and under.

If you are 11 & under and have at least one USA Swimming Motivational "A" Time Standard you are welcome to register for HIGH PERFORMANCE CLINIC.

COACHES: There are up to four spots available in the hands-on coaches program. If you are interested in meeting with and working alongside Chloe during the clinic, please contact us.

This clinic is designed to be a fun experience for young athletes to build on their love for swimming and get faster! It is ESSENTIAL to have an efficient, powerful freestyle in practice and in a race. 2012 Olympian Chloe Sutton will highlight and enforce proper body position, rotation and balance to give you an edge on your competition! Plus, she will give you tips on a fast flip turn!

FREESTYLE: We swim freestyle more than any other stroke in training, instead of tuning out on technique use our coaches to inspire you to make each stroke you take count. Begin by setting up a great bodyline, learning drills to establish high elbows in both your powerful catch and your relaxed recovery and commit to a six beat kick. We know that the breath can slow even some of the most accomplished freestylers down, learn to perfect not only your timing but also how to take a low and quicker breath.

  • BODY POSITION: Instead of relying on your kick to keep your hips high, learn skills and drills elite swimmers rely on to keep a horizontal body position throughout a race.
  • CORE DRIVEN ROTATION: From sprinter to miler, the hips and core play such an important role in generating the rotation. Feel the power when you realize how the pull and the hip rotation work together to create forward momentum.
  • KICK: Embrace the six beat kick! This strong, steady kick just at the surface will become the engine that drives you forward.
  • PULL: Utilize an early vertical forearm to put pressure backwards on the water immediately upon entry to help propel you forward.

FLIP TURN: Numerous coaches talk to their athletes about the walls being "Free Speed"! At the turn, you get the opportunity to recreate momentum off of each wall; learn how to take advantage of that opportunity.

  • APPROACH: Using your final stroke to pull you both forward and downward is a high performance skill that saves time and maintains momentum.
  • ROTATION: Speed up your rotation by avoiding a twist in the middle of it. Instead, rotate only forward and plant your feet pointing more toward the surface rather than toward the bottom of the pool.
  • FOOT PLANT: Plant your feet, shoulder width apart, with toes pointing more toward the surface than toward the bottom of the pool to initiate a more powerful push off.
  • PUSH OFF: During a freestyle push off, it is faster to leave the wall on your back rather than spinning onto your side during the rotation. Use your core and your feet as a rudder to help you rotate onto your side and stomach into the breakout.
ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Chloe Sutton questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into her training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIAN: Observe Chloe swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast swimming.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch her near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills she will teach you.
