Past Clinic

This clinic is designed to be a fun experience for young swimmers to build on their love for swimming! Three-time Olympian Elizabeth Beisel will teach participants the skills you need to improve your overall race performance: starts, flip turns and finishes!

FLAT STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; Elizabeth will share stories on how she found time to practice and improve her starts both in and out of the water and then she'll teach you some of her favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.

FLIP TURNS: Numerous coaches talk to their athletes about the walls being "Free Speed"! At the turn, you get the opportunity to recreate momentum off of each wall; learn how to take advantage of that opportunity.

  • ROTATION: Speed up your rotation by avoiding a twist in the middle of it. Instead, rotate only forward and plant your feet pointing more toward the surface rather than toward the bottom of the pool.
  • FOOT PLANT: Plant your feet, shoulder width apart, with toes pointing more toward the surface than toward the bottom of the pool to initiate a more powerful push off.
  • PUSH OFF: During the push off, it is faster to leave the wall on your back rather than spinning onto your side during the rotation. Use your core and your feet as a rudder to help you rotate onto your side and stomach into the breakout.
FINISHES: A strong finish is ESSENTIAL during a race - it can be the difference between making a cut or missing one! Learn the KEY components to a well-timed and efficient finish from Olympian Elizabeth Beisel!
  • APPROACH: DO NOT DECREASE SPEED INTO THE WALL! Maintain your speed and train to take your last breath at the flags so all your momentum travels forward.
  • BODY POSITION: It is critical to get full extension as you reach your fingertips to the wall. Head down, chin to shoulder and rotating fully onto your side will extend your reach by inches.
  • TOUCH: Touching the wall with the fingertips will cut time from your finish. Learn how to finish fast with just the fingertips.

ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Elizabeth questions during a Q&A session. Hear her talk and gain insight into her training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIAN: Observe Elizabeth Beisel swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast freestyle and breaststroke.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch her near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills she will teach you.
