Past Clinic
BUTTERFLY: Butterfly, more than any other stroke relies on rhythm and momentum; take advantage of the expertise our clinicians will share with you to learn balance, timing and how to create forward momentum.
BACKSTROKE: Identify with your expert clinicians the key factors to build a balanced and propulsive backstroke. It will require a strong core, a small and steady kick and a pull pattern where pressure is put immediately backwards on the water.
- BODY POSITION: Learn why it is so important to ride high on the water with the hips and feet in line with the spine
- CORE DRIVEN ROTATION: Probably the most over-rotated stroke, learn how to use your core for a more forward rotation
- PULL: Accelerating your hand into the entry and getting into a clean catch position will help you set up a pull that will propel you forward.
FLAT STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; our world class clinicians will share stories on how they found time to practice and improve their starts both in and out of the water and then they'll teach you some of their favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.
- HAND PLACEMENT: Know exactly where to place your hands so that you can pull with your arms on the start.
- FOOT PLACEMENT: Everyone's foot placement might be a bit different but our clinicians will teach you how to figure out what is best for you to gain both stability on the block and explosive power when leaving the block. Even though you may not have a wedge platform to practice off of regularly, our clinicians will instruct you on how to confidently adjust the wedge and teach you where to place it for your individual strengths. Soon the wedge will be standard equipment at all championship level meets - put yourself in a position to know how to use it to your advantage!
- BODY LINE/ENTRY: How you enter the water is just as important as how explosive you are off the blocks - all the power you created can be for naught if you don't carry that speed forward. Experiment with how steep is too steep, how to get into one small entry hole and how to stay strong from fingertips to toes. Work on eliminating water resistance for the tightest possible entry. Learn to squeeze the ears tightly and elongate the body for the most optimal position for ultimate acceleration off the start. Learn to set your arms, legs and core in a confident and comfortable position for a more powerful start.
