“We’ve never been to a camp like this. It’s quite impressive how Fitter and Faster put it together. You can see the care that went into it. We came here for inspiration and to meet Olympians, but it turned out to be a lot more than that."

Bach Lequang, Parent, Princeton Tigers Aquatic Club, Elite Camp Eastern Region

There is very limited space available for the ELITE CAMP: WALLS, WALLS, WALLS! Only swimmers capable of swimming the 100 yard free between 46.00 to 1:05.99 are eligible to attend.  All participants will be in groups and lanes according to speed.  This camp is beneficial for swimmers of all strokes and distances.

Participants will learn to focus on how to engage the entire body to get maximum velocity out of every start, breakout, and turn. Coaches can attend! This is a great opportunity for coaches to attend, learn and become more educated in a close environment with some of the best clinicians in the country.

Friday night will include dinner with Nick Thoman. Interact with an Olympic gold medalist and get to know his thoughts, habits, and qualities that have helped him become a champion.

UNDERWATER DOLPHIN KICKING: Absolutely, undeniably, the fastest way to move through the water! Whether you dolphin kick on your stomach, side or back, understanding the importance of streamlined, underwater speed is vital for every swimmer!

  • Body Position: The simplest way to maintain your speed is a TIGHT STREAMLINE from fingertips to toes! Nick will reinforce your core positioning to maximize your speed through reducing drag.
  • Core Driven: The dolphin kick is a full body movement that takes a lot of core strength. Too many swimmers kick from their knees down. Nick will teach you how to unlock the power of a full body undulation to create incredible power in your underwater dolphin kicks
  • Kick Count: Take advantage of every single kick for better training and racing! Learn to use the up AND down portion of the dolphin kick for better distance per kick and power. Smart racers know their kick count off the start and the walls. Nick will help you figure out the proper number of kicks for YOU!

START: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice.

  • Arm Positioning: Know exactly where to place your hands so that you can pull with your arms on the start. Your arms are important to getting extra power and entering in a tight streamline.
  • Leg Power: Everyone's foot placement might be a bit different but our clinicians will teach you how to figure out what is best for you to gain both stability on the block and explosive power when leaving the block.
  • Reduce Drag: How you enter the water is just as important as how explosive you are off the blocks - all the power you created can be for naught if you don't carry that speed forward. Find the proper positioning to take advantage of your speed and allow it to take you further.

FLIP TURNS: In this elite camp you will learn the intricacies of how to get in and out of the flags faster than ever. It may require more toughness and focus but it will pay off!

  • Approach: The more speed you approach the wall with, the more energy you'll create to leave the wall with speed! Learn the importance of building your tempo into the wall!
  • Arm Usage: Using your arms ineffectively is the biggest mistake that swimmers make in the turn. Nick will teach you to splash yourself in the face (trust us!) to learn the proper arm movement to increase speed through the turn.
  • Foot Plant: Plant your feet, shoulder width apart, with toes pointing more toward the surface than toward the bottom of the pool to initiate a more powerful push off.
WATCH NICK: Before you swim, observe the Nick swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills that you will be learning.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch his technique - achieved by practicing the same drills he will teach you.

PUT YOUR SKILLS TO THE TEST: At this camp, you will get the opportunity to challenge yourself with a hard set that Nick has done in his training

ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Nick questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into his training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WHAT ARE OTHERS SAYING ABOUT THE ELITE TWO-DAY CAMPS:

"The Olympians have been able to look at each individual swimmer’s stroke, critique us, and do what’s best for each athlete. They want it to be perfect. I really like how particular they’re being. They are trying to improve us as swimmers and athletes.”

- Luke Gordon, 2014 Elite Camp Athlete (Eastern Region), Albany Starfish
