PART 1: FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

College swimming provides valuable opportunities, but finding the best fit for your swimmer is essential. Understanding the distinctions between NCAA divisions (DI, DII, DIII), as well as NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA, and CCS, is crucial. Swimmers should consider factors like competitive level, academics, location, cost, and their potential role on the team. In Part 1, we'll guide participants in identifying their unique needs, setting priorities, and creating a strategic college search timeline.

  • Key Considerations: Examine crucial factors for college selection such as academic programs, location, costs, competitive level, coaching staff, and your swimmer’s potential role on the team.
  • Helpful Resources: We’ll provide tools to research schools, understand what to look for, and clarify key terms in the college search process.
  • Defining Needs and Wants: We’ll help your swimmer distinguish between their essential needs and their preferences.
  • Setting Priorities: Defining priorities will enable swimmers to focus their college search effectively.
  • Building a Timeline: We’ll guide swimmers in creating a realistic timeline and action plan for targeting colleges that align with their goals.

  • Understanding Admissions Options: Learn the differences between early decision, early action, regular decision, and rolling admissions, along with timelines to make the best choice for your student.
  • Application Process Essentials: We’ll simplify admissions jargon, explain application steps, and discuss the factors colleges consider when making decisions.
  • Admissions & Athletics Connection: Understand how swimming can improve your student’s acceptance chances at their top schools, and learn what to ask coaches to make informed decisions.
  • Non-Athletic Financial Aid: Explore additional financial aid sources, including need-based aid, academic scholarships, and external scholarships, and learn where to find these resources.
  • Athletic Scholarships & Benefits: We’ll discuss athletic scholarships, including their availability, rules, and timing for discussing financial offers. Learn what benefits are standard for athletes and what might be exceptional, helping you assess offers from different schools.
