Suggested Participants

Nick will teach at 2 sessions designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities on May 5th:

Faster Backstroke Racing

Olympic gold medalist Nick Thoman has the knowledge of technique for faster swimming as well as the ability to teach it in a way that can help swimmers of all ages and abilities understand, apply, and improve! Nick will be in the water with all of the participants to help them learn faster backstroke technique.

  • Body Position: Starting with a solid foundation will allow your swimmer to build up a fast and strong backstroke! Engage your core so that you have a flat and straight back. A proper head position will allow you to get your hips and legs to the surface and reduce your drag so that you can swim faster.
  • Kick: Backstrokers are often the fastest kickers on their team since backstroke is a very leg driven stroke. Kick from your core with long legs and pointed toes. Maintain a strong rhythm and you won't believe how fast you'll go!
  • Arm pull: There are many intricacies to a strong backstroke arm pull that require coordination and focus. Get a clean, pinkie first entry, a strong catch, a long finish, and a smooth recovery. Nick will help swimmers learn the proper technique as well as the awareness to be able to execute it properly.
  • Rotation: The power that you need in backstroke to be able to go fast comes from a strong rotation. Engaging your core and connecting your pull to the rotation of your body will allow you to get more length and speed out of every pull!

Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Nick questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into his training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

Observe Nick swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast swimming.

Take your strokes to top speed and get your heartrate up with Nick Thoman. Hold on to your form as long as possible to put your new skills to the test.
