EXPERIENCE

Sri Lankan Olympian Matthew Abeysinghe started swimming when he was 3 years old, not to compete, but for water safety! However, his love for swimming pushed him to compete.

Matthew is considered one of the greatest and most decorated South Asian athletes of all time. He has achieved a number of achievements during his career including national records, awards, records and international medals.

Abeysinghe launched onto the international stage in 2014 where he competed at the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships. From there he continued his international prowess in the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championship.

Early in 2016, Matthew qualified for his first Olympic Games and that summer he Represented Sri Lanka in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

In 2017, Abeysinghe moved to the US to attend Ohio State where he became a CSCAA First Team All-American & CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American. While competing as a Buckeye, he continued to compete internationally in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and later that year competed in the Asian Games.

in 2020 (2021) Abeysinghe competed in the Summer Olympic Games representing Sri Lanka.

Carlos and Matthew were great with the kids! Kids of all skill levels attended and I thought it was great that those kids new to swimming had advanced kids explaining what those drills were.

We are thankful also for Matthew talking to us about how to swim the 200 fly. That is a difficult race!
