So I went to my masters practice last night. We were mostly doing mid-distance freestyle with a couple of IM sets. I focused on just a couple of the things that Todd had pointed out (most importantly, my head position and my crappy streamline). My 50’s were a good 2-3 seconds faster with minimal effort, and even more of a difference for the longer sets! Three people on my team asked me what was going on with me and why I was swimming so much faster. Super duper exciting!!
Back in the dark ages when I was a developing swimmer, the coaches mostly focused on whether you were actually doing the sets or hiding out on the wall. The coaches would never EVER pull you out of a set to fix anything with your stroke, or do any kind of a stroke clinic. As a result, I have gotten virtually no coaching on how to improve. (anyway, swimming technique has really changed from when I was a high school swimmer 22 years ago)
This was SO awesome to see videos and hear some commentary on what I can do to clean things up. I felt like such a VIP!
