Curriculum
Freestyle is the backbone of your competitive swimming experience. It’s the stroke you train the most, race the most, and rely on for everything from the 50 to the mile. And because it’s the fastest way through the water, even small technical refinements produce measurable gains — in speed, endurance, and efficiency.
During this session, you’ll break down and rebuild the five performance drivers of elite freestyle: bodyline, rotation, breathing mechanics, kick integration, and a propulsive catch. Whether you’re chasing a podium, a personal best, or simply a smoother, stronger stroke, this camp is designed to help you swim faster with less wasted energy.
It’s never too late to refine the details that make you durable, confident, and powerful in the water.
- Bodyline: Speed begins with posture. A clean, aligned bodyline reduces drag and conserves energy over every distance. Small adjustments to head position, spinal alignment, and core engagement can dramatically improve your movement through the water. You’ll learn how to stay long, stable, and hydrodynamic — stroke after stroke.
- Breathing: Breathing should support your speed, not disrupt it. Lifting the head creates drag and breaks momentum. You’ll refine a low, controlled breath driven by body rotation — quick, compact, and seamlessly integrated into your stroke so your hips stay high and your rhythm uninterrupted.
- Rotation: Elite freestyle is powered by rotation. When you rotate around a stable spine, you recruit your back and core — not just your shoulders. You’ll learn how to balance on your side, connect rotation to the catch, and generate more sustainable power with less strain.
- Kicking: The kick is your accelerator. Whether you’re building tempo in a sprint or maintaining rhythm in distance work, efficient kicking starts from the hips with precise timing and control. You’ll learn how to adjust kick tempo and intensity to match your race demands.
- Pull: The catch sets everything in motion. Establishing an early vertical forearm — the “high elbow catch” — allows you to apply pressure immediately and direct force straight back. You’ll refine leverage, engage larger muscle groups, and finish each stroke with strength and purpose.
