Owen grew up in South Africa and moved with his family to San Diego in 1986 at the age of 14.  He swam competitively through High School and started coaching and teaching in the newly founded Swim Team/Family business.  It consisted of a Lesson Program, Novice Group and small Age Group Team of 15 swimmers.  Owen helped develop the age groupers and as they got older he moved up with them to be their coach in the new Senior Group. As a Senior Coach, his swimmers set numerous S.I. Records, won races at Western Zones & Far Westerns. The swimmers achieved time standards all the way up to Olympic Trials.  Many of the swimmers went on to swim in college at Division 1 schools including: Stanford, UCLA, Tulane, University of Wisconsin, Northwestern & others. At that time, Owen returned to his true love, Age Group Coaching and has not looked back.  Over the years, Coach Owen’s Age Group swimmers have set hundreds of S.I. Records, won many races at the highest level and his swimmers are consistently ranked in the Top 16 Nationally.  Coach Owen loves helping young swimmers to achieve their goals.
