Q: What is the perfect freestyle technique? A: It depends!
The style and technique of the freestyle that you swim in a 50 free has some differences to the freestyle that you swim in a 1650! Olympic medalist Connor Jaeger competes at the highest level in the spectrum of freestyle events and he understands these variations. At this event, he will teach you how to adjust your stroke to help you find your fastest and most efficient freestyle.
Distance Freestyle: Longer races require a more efficient stroke to be able to sustain a high speed for a longer period of time. The fastest distance swimmers utilize energy conservation strategies to get more power and distance out of each stroke.
Sprint Freestyle: When you're just trying to get one length across the pool as fast as possible, you have to be explosive, powerful, and achieve a very fast turnover without sacrificing length. Many swimmers spin their wheels when they try to sprint, but Connor Jaeger will teach you how to maximize tempo while keeping long and powerful strokes so that you can improve your sprint racing.
-
Breath: Most swimmers slow down when they take a breath because they have their head turned to the side for too long. Learn how to breathe quickly and efficiently so that you accelerate in your breathing stroke instead of slowing down!
-
Kick: A strong and powerful stroke is SO important to be able to sprint fast! Learning the proper kick technique and timing will give a lot of extra propulsion. Start practicing saying "Strawberry, Blueberry". Connor will explain the rest at the event!
- Tempo: Increasing your tempo in your race isn't just about moving your arms fast. There is a specific technique to moving your arms fast without sacrificing length and power.
