At the 2012 London Olympics, Keenan Robinson joined the USA Swimming Olympic Team Staff as an athletic trainer as well as the strength and conditioning coordinator for elite Olympic athletes. Robinson was hired by renowned coach Bob Bowman as the director fo athlete services for North Baltimore Aquatic Club and served as a trainer at international swim meets, such as the 2007 PanAmerican games, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and the 2009 and 2011 World Championships.
Robinson's expertise as a staff trainer at meets and camps has set the standard for a new generation of swimming support staff.He has been extensively schooled in strength and conditioning best practices. Prior to his work at NBAC, he was an athletic trainer at the University of Michigan, where he won the 2013 Men’s NCAA Championship.
Robinsons work at Michigan and NBAC has blazed the trail for specialized athlete services in the sport of swimming, bringing tried and true training techniques that have been prevalent in other sports to the swimming world. He has also invented customized, never before seen programs, tailored specifically to the rigors of swimming. Keenan’s work has garnered proven results and is sure to be used as a model by other programs in the future of swimming.
Robinson’s programs are founded on his principles of:
1) Grounded in Science, but proven in Training
2) Age/ Athleticism Specific
3) Long Term Development- don’t be good once in one event, be great over the duration of your career
4) Injury prevention
Keenan has presented locally at ASCA, USA Swimming National Coaches, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association conferences, as well as internationally at FINA conferences. He has written, implemented, and worked daily with swimmers that have won individual medals at the Olympics and FINA Long Course World Championships in every stroke and distance from the 100 up to the 25k.
In addition to his work at the elite level, Keenan has worked with NAG record holders, Junior National Champions, and high school National Champions. He has consulted at the Club Level, Collegiate level, as well as with professional swimmers.
