Fitter & Faster

SUGGESTED PARTICIPANTS: This clinic session is recommended for swimmers ages 10 and under.
COACHES: There are up to four spots available in the hands-on coaches program. If you are interested in meeting with and working alongside Chloe and Gary during the clinic, please contact us.
FREESTYLE: Freestylers have the widest range of distances to compete in. At this event, you will learn from two swimmers on opposite ends of the spectrum. Gary Hall Jr. is a legendary sprint freestyler who will teach participants the key components of an explosive and powerful freestyle. On the other end of the spectrum, Chloe Sutton competed in the Olympics in the 10,000 meter "Marathon Swim". She will teach swimmers how to swim long and efficient freestyle. Between these two champions, you will have the opportunity to learn about the different ways that you can approach freestyle and leave faster than ever!
  • Body position: Instead of relying on your kick to keep your hips high, learn skills and drills elite swimmers rely on to keep a horizontal body position throughout a race. Swim over the water like a speed boat, not a submarine.
  • Powerful Rotation: From sprinter to miler, the hips and core play such an important role in generating power from the rotation. Feel the power when you realize how to anchor your hips while rotating for a stronger stroke.
  • Fast kick: Learn the mechanics for not only proper kicking technique, but also proper kicking timing! Use your core, glutes, and a long leg to generate propulsion from a small and quick kick. Do you know how many kicks to do per stroke? Chloe and Gary will tell you how!
  • Efficient Pull: Utilize an early vertical forearm to put pressure backwards on the water immediately upon entry to help maximize the effectiveness of your pull

TURNS: In this clinic you will learn the intricacies of how to get in and out of the flags faster than ever. The turns are the most missed opportunity to drop time. With proper technique, you will take your swimming to the next level. It may require more toughness and focus but it will pay off!

  • Accelerate into the wall: The more speed you approach the wall with, the more energy you'll create to leave the wall with speed! Learn the importance of building your tempo into the wall!
  • Fast rotation: Getting your feet to the wall quickly is paramount for a fast turn! Practice a fast and tight rotation by learning to use your head, core and by driving your heels to the wall.
  • Powerful pushoff: During a freestyle push off, it is faster to leave the wall on your back rather than spinning onto your side during the rotation. Don't waste any time! Get off the wall and into a tight streamline.

UNDERWATER DOLPHIN KICKING: The fastest that you will ever be moving in a race is immediately after the dive and as you push off the wall in your turn. Maximize your speed and power at this point and use underwater dolphin kicking to accelerate into your breakout!

  • Body Position: The simplest way to maintain your speed is a TIGHT STREAMLINE from fingertips to toes! Chloe and Gary will reinforce to you why they NEVER take streamlining for granted. Every fast swimmer must look like a rocket when they push off the wall!
  • Core Driven: The dolphin kick is a full body movement that takes a lot of core strength. Too many swimmers kick from their knees down. Chloe and Gary will teach you how to unlock the power of a full body undulation to create incredible power in your underwater dolphin kicks.
  • Kick Count/Frequency: Take advantage of every single kick for better training and racing! Learn to use the up AND down portion of the dolphin kick for better distance per kick and power. Smart racers know their kick count off the start and the walls. We will help you create a goal for how many kicks you should hold yourself accountable to now, and in the future, as you improve.
ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Chloe Sutton and Gary Hall Jr. questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into their training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIANS: Observe Chloe and Gary swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast swimming.

GET UP AND RACE: Race two of the best swimmers in the world and watch their near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills they will teach you.
