This clinic is designed to be a fun experience for young swimmers to build on their love for swimming! Olympian Tyler Clary will teach participants the skills you need to improve your overall race performance: starts, underwater dolphin kicking and breakouts!

FLAT STARTS: Set the tone for a great race with a powerful, streamlined and fast start. There are countless intricacies to performing a great start and you only get better with practice; Tyler will share stories on how he found time to practice and improve his starts both in and out of the water and then he'll teach you some of his favorite strategies on how to execute this explosive and athletic movement.
  • HAND PLACEMENT: Know exactly where to place your hands so that you can pull with your arms on the start.
  • FOOT PLACEMENT: Everyone's foot placement might be a bit different but Tyler will teach you how to figure out what is best for you to gain both stability on the block and explosive power when leaving the block. 
  • BODY LINE/ENTRY: How you enter the water is just as important as how explosive you are off the blocks. Experiment with how steep is too steep, how to get into one small entry hole and how to stay strong from fingertips to toes. Work on eliminating water resistance for the tightest possible entry and learn to squeeze the ears tightly and elongate the body for the most optimal position.
UNDERWATER DOLPHIN KICKING: Did you know that most swimmers under the age of 12 do not streamline properly or use a powerful dolphin kick? Did you know that this is the fastest part of your race?? Get an edge over your competition by using this SECRET WEAPON!
  • BODY POSITION: The simplest way to maintain your speed is a TIGHT STREAMLINE! Olympian Tyler Clary  will reinforce to you why he NEVER takes streamlining for granted. Every fast swimmer must look like a rocket when they push off the wall! 
  • CORE DRIVEN: Not a single great dolphin kicker kicks from their knees down! Our clinician will instruct you on how to engage your kick from the core, utilizing your chest press and hip drive to create a fluid undulating motion.
BREAKOUTS: Carrying the speed from your turn into the first stroke cycle is crucial for maintaining momentum. Learn the key components of a breakout that make you more confident during a race! 
  • TIMING: Learn to time your breakout so you can take advantage of the momentum gained during your turn and underwater dolphin kicking!
  • HEAD POSITION: Don’t breathe on your first stroke! Break the water with your head down- maintaining body position and carrying the speed through the water. 
  • STREAMLINE: Focus on pushing the streamline to make this the fastest part of your race!
ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Tyler questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into his training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.
