Custom Curriculum - Columbus, OH:
FEEL THE WATER: A crucial element of Nymeyer's freestyler is having a strong relationship with the water. Through sculling drills learn how to feel the water and understand how the subtle changes in arm, elbow, and hand pitch have an effect of efficiency and speed.
CONNECTING THE KICK: Nymeyer will teach drills that will allow swimmers to catch water at the beginning each stroke and connecting it with a powerful body rotation and a strong kick. Doing these drills with a slow recovery forces swimmers to focus on doing every technical aspect correctly
CREATING A PERFECT DOLPHIN KICK: A key component of all strokes is a powerful underwater dolphin kick. Nymeyer will teach her progression of drills from vertical kick to pushing off the wall that will increase the speed and efficiency of the dolphin kick.
FORWARD MOMENTUM: A critical element of fast butterfly is maintaining forward momentum. Learn a series of drills that focus energy finishing the stroke properly to propel the body forward.
KICK TIMING: Margalis will teach how to properly time the second kick so the body does not rise to high out the water – leading to wasted momentum. This skill is critical for efficient swimming.
BODY LINE: Maintaining a proper body line from the top of the head all the way through the spine makes swimming fast much easier. Break down the upper and lower body elements of the stroke to ensure these is no wasted movement.
DYNAMIC WARMUP: Dynamic stretching is an excellent way to warm up for training and competition. Learn the movements Margalis uses to warm up before workouts and meets and when incorporated into a daily workout can give a swimmer an edge above the competition.
WHAT ARE THEY THINKING: Get inside the minds of two of the best swimmers in the world. Nymeyer and Margalis will dissect their stroke and explain what they think about when they swim in practices and races.
WATCH THE CLINICIANS: Observe Nymeyer and Margalis swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast freestyle and butterfly.
GET UP AND RACE: Race two of the best swimmers in the world and watch their near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills they will teach you.
ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask the clinicians questions during a Q&A session. Hear the Olympians talk and gain insight into their training regimen, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.
